Whitley CDA celebrates social media and the generosity of our community on Radio Berkshire

Trisha Bennett (our Community Development Coordinator) was featured on BBC Radio Berkshire last Saturday, January 8th. You can hear Trisha talking with Paul Coia on the Breakfast show here:

Whitley CDA is incredibly grateful to be part of such a great community on social media. We know that many people are challenged with the negative aspects of social media, however, our experience has, in the main, been positive. And once again our faith in the community has been rewarded.

Last week we returned from our short Christmas break to discover that our oven had cooked one mince pie too many and had to go and join the oven graveyard. Not surprisingly we had not budgeted for this unexpected occurrence and found ourselves considering what we would have to cut in order to purchase a new oven.

Before we committed to spending the extra funds it was decided that we would reach out to our amazing online community and see what could be done. Amazingly within two hours of asking for support in finding a replacement oven we received an incredibly generous donation of £2,000. Not for the first time we have been completely blown away by the generosity of the community. What a wonderful start to 2022.

We are so lucky to be a part of the Whitley and wider Reading community, almost every day we are the recipients of random acts of kindness, from kind words to generous donations and for this, we are very grateful.

We have a number of ongoing projects that are all about the local community – local people working locally to make a difference. If you would like to get involved you can.
