Connecting with the Community
As many of you will be aware WCDA is fortunate to have a great relationship with Morrisons who kindly donate food parcels to us on a regular basis. Some of you may not be familiar with the Indian Community Centre in Reading East.
We share many of the same values as The Indian Community Centre, they aim to combat the challenges arising from deprivation and social exclusion in the local community through a range of good quality social, healthy living, educational, and recreational programmes.
They are also striving to help break down barriers and reduce isolation. And like us they believe that our strength lies in our diversity, meeting the needs of local people and supporting their aspirations.
One of the ways the Indian Community Centre achieves this is by providing meals every day for people who are at risk, especially the elderly and the homeless.
With this in mind, Mo reached out to Vera (the centre’s manager) and organised a visit to the centre and took along a food parcel (c/o Morrisons) that included species, cloves, currants and lentils.
We hope this is the first of many joint efforts as we look to strengthen community the bonds and as the late Jo Cox said we look to focus on the good and recognise that there is more that unites us than divides us.
If you would like to get involved in a similar way please do not hesitate to contact us, our door is always open.
