Being a governor is a demanding but highly rewarding role. You will need to enjoy teamwork, be a keen learner and be able to support and challenge the headteacher. Governing Body meetings are held at different times during the day. Individual governors are also expected to meet in the school or virtually to undertake specific monitoring activities in linked areas. As a guide a governor would spend about 40 hours a year preparing for and attending meetings then undertaking actions and reporting back in meeting. Training and support are provided in all aspects of being a governor. Details about the general role of a governor can be found on the NGA (National Governor Association) website
